Cape Ann SymphonyDavid L. Benjamin • Business Manager
David is the retired (January 2018) Business Manager for the Cape Ann Symphony, a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing symphonic music to the Cape Ann residents and visitors, providing opportunities for area musicians to perform orchestral music and supporting the musical education of Cape Ann students.
Since 1981 David was responsible for the details of producing their annual four concert series and Youth Initiative programs. He oversaw all aspects of the organization; concert production, box office and administrative duties.
He dedicated his work to keep the “Joy of Music” a reality for our Cape Ann audiences. He takes great pride in their high artistic standard and encourages everyone to hear this wonderful music. He is especially grateful to Music Director Yoichi Udagawa who has brought the orchestra to new heights under his leadership and baton.
Sam and Helen Gordon founded the orchestra in 1952. As musicians themselves, it was their dream that there should be live symphonic music accessible to Cape Ann residents. Their dream has become the musical gem of Cape Ann.
David has a long association with the orchestra. He met his wife Sally at the Cape Ann Symphony when she was serving as the orchestra Librarian and he was a Gloucester High School student invited to play with the orchestra. His future mother-in-law, Leah Knowlton also played in the orchestra. Thus began a musical journey that continues today; thanks to the Cape Ann Symphony!
